It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas...
This was our first tree, during its first round of decoration.
Insert a 10 month old chocolate lab who has never seen a Christmas tree and you too would have to redecorate your Christmas tree several times.
By the end of our Christmas trees (yes, plural) life, all the ornaments were at the top foot and a half of the tree. Silly dog.

I think she was attracted to the smell of it - it smells like the ocean.

We did end up with a dead tree about 7 days after the first purchase. We were devastated by the loss of our first tree but the second tree we bought was just as perfect. Despite the needles, you can't beat the Christmas tree smell.

Thanksgiving 2011
Need I comment on how time has flown?!
Thanksgiving 2011.
We spent the day with family in Luckenbach, Texas at a charity event for Wounded Warriors. It was wonderful to spend the holidays with the family, but truly honoring to spend it at a function raising money for the men and women who have served this great nation.
Gathered before the feast
The food was great, but the company was better. We stuffed our faces of every Thanksgiving side dish imaginable. It was a potluck and man, oh man, were there some delicious food. Some things I might have to try out next year!
Looking forward to Thanksgiving 2012. Batt Family Reunion in Phoenix. Consider yourself forewarned, I am giving you a 10 month heads up.

This last Sunday PaPa and NaNa came for a quick visit to see our home, meet Zulu and spend some quality time with Brad and I. Since October of 2010, we have seen PaPa and NaNa a couple times, but we have never had one-on-one time with them, so this was extremely special.
P & N are winter birds here in Texas and stay about 3.5 hours north of Corpus Christi for the winter months. This year they will be here until February/March and Brad and I plan on seeing them as much as we can. We are already looking forward to the few days we will see them for Thanksgiving. We are planning on heading up there and spending the day at a charity event that P & N have gone to for the past several years! Uncle Rick, Aunt Christy, and cousins, Courtney, Paul, Jarrod and Lauren will also be there. I am looking forward to Brad meeting MORE family (poor guy!) and he is excited to see Uncle Rick - he just adores him. (:
Then, a couple weeks after Thanksgiving Brad and I will head back up to see P & N for a BBQ that will be held at the VFW. P brought some pigs with him from Idaho and the VFW is going to be smoking them up. This is the same thing we did at Uncle Rick's in Amarillo in March, which we had a great time doing.
We really enjoyed our time with them. P & Brad talked about flying ALL day long. It was great to watch them interact all day. I just love that they love Brad!
During their visit we had a chance to visit the flight line and the Navy even let us crawl inside of a plane and hang out for a while. So neat - we would of never been able to do that in Enid! The guys chatted about flying and NaNa and I watched some of the active planes taxi and takeoff.

I won! I won! I won!
Until a couple weeks ago I had never won anything in my life. Well, minus that one time that my dad bought raffle tickets at my school and we won a beanie baby. But really - Dad won that one I just reaped the rewards. So, imagine my excitement when I won something from a blog that I follow.
On Google Blogger I follow various blogs - most of them crafting, scrapbooking, DIY blogs that inspire me to be creative.
One blog in particular I follow is Meghann's Little Corner. Meghann is an interior designer and uses her creative eye to make the most adorable scrapbooking layouts and crafts for her house. She shares her ideas, her recipes, her life with the world and I just adore her!
Recently she was having a giveaway for American Crafts Zing! embossing powder. What avid scrapbooker doesn't love a little embossing powder, I know I do! So, when I saw her giveaway I had to enter.
A couple days later when she reveled my name on her blog as the winner I had to pinch myself. I was so stinkin' excited. A few emails exchanged and a couple days later, the goodies arrived. She sent me two different colors, leaf and mustard, which you can see here. I am so excited to use them in a fall inspired layout. I was hoping to have a layout done to show you all, but I haven't had a chance to break open the crafts again.
Thanks again, Meghann! It was wonderful chatting with you and exchanging emails! I will continue to be an avid reader of yours.

Life updates
I seriously CAN NOT believe that it is November 9 already! Where does the time go?
Brad has been flying almost every day since I last updated. He is doing really well and enjoying being in a bigger plane. He is still a studying fool, chair flying and mumbling radio calls in his sleep.
Today I had the chance to head out to one of the airfields and watch him fly. I sat in a parking lot and took pictures and watched his tail number fly by again and again and again. It was lovely!

I've been working a couple days a week and just enjoying my freedom. I am currently looking for a full-time job again, though. I have become real bored at home and really need something that stimulates the brain. (:
Zulu is doing good. Still being a pain in the arse, but loving life. She has recently found a love of dragging our clothes and blankets out the doggie door and into the backyard. It then becomes a game as I try to get her to "come" and give them back. She also loves getting stuck under the coffee table. Ohhhh the joys!

Missing Enid...
Been really missing Enid lately. Funny, when we moved there I didn't think I would have a chance to become accustomed to the city. My thoughts about the city upon our arrival ranged about as far as the north and south end of Van Buren stretched - which isn't far.
But two short months and one job later I met people. Coworkers turned into friends, friends turned into family.
We became close to a few couples and close to a few of Brad's fellow classmates/pilots.
When the orders fell to come to Corpus, we were excited but anxiety grew as we knew we would be leaving such a great town filled with amazing people.
See, the thing with the Air Force is I know that we will run into the AF families again. We'll be able to keep up with them, watch their little families grow, even be invited to future weddings. (Jon, don't leave us hanging on that one. She better be awesome, she'll be my PIC when we meet up again!)
But, the thing that makes me most sad is the people we left that we most likely won't see again - the friends that so quickly became family. I learned from them, shared with them, they brought me closer to God and to being the person I wanted to be.
For that, I am eternally grateful. For that, each of them will always have a special place in my heart!
This is why if the AF sends us back to Enid, OK sometime in the future, you will hear nothing but cries of sweet joy from me.
So today I am thankful for Facebook. Although at times I hate it's guts for the drama induced chaos it can create, I am thankful to have the social medium that allows me to stay in contact. It lets me know that even 700 miles away, I can feel like I'm enjoying a coffee fresh brewed from the Keurig with them! :)
